Join the LWVNLM public forum expert presentation on the current state of gun violence and firearm injury in Michigan and explore evidence-based prevention strategies. The presentation will be led by
Jessica Roche from The University of Michigan Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention. As firearm injury and death rates continue to increase, there is a great need for data-driven solutions. For other serious public health problems, such as motor vehicle crashes, our nation has turned to scientific evidence to prevent injury and firearms should be no different. The U of M Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention gathers data to generate knowledge and takes input from nonacademic stakeholders, including firearm owners, to advance solutions to decrease gun injury in the US.
There will be time for Q&A at the end.

The Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention
Launched as a presidential initiative in 2019, the institute engages the breadth of expertise across the University of Michigan, with input from nonacademic stakeholders, to generate knowledge and advance solutions that will decrease firearm injury across the United States — all while respecting the rights of responsible, law-abiding firearm owners.
Based in the Office of the Vice President for Research, the institute fosters collaboration among researchers in disciplines ranging from the social sciences and the arts to engineering and public health so that, together, they can formulate and answer critical questions about firearm injury prevention.
